An entire mountain town washed in a hundred shades of blue.
Tucked into the Rif Mountains in the north, Chefchaouen is unlike anywhere else in Morocco, a medina painted entirely in blue, from cobalt doorways to powder-blue stairs. It is small, cool, and made for wandering with a camera. We pair it with the surrounding mountains, local goat-cheese and weaving traditions, and the panoramic Spanish Mosque at sunset.
Chefchaouen is a small mountain town in the Rif, in northern Morocco, known for its blue-washed medina. It is quieter and cooler than the imperial cities and best enjoyed slowly, with time for photography, short mountain walks and local crafts. Because of its location, it is usually combined with Fes or Tangier.
It is possible, but with around seven to eight hours of driving in total, one night in Chefchaouen is far more comfortable.
Early morning and late afternoon, when the light is soft and the lanes are quiet.
