The Erg Chebbi dunes

Merzouga Sahara

The true Sahara, great orange dunes that shift color through the day.

Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes are the Sahara of the imagination, towering ridges of orange sand that turn pink at dawn and deep red at dusk. The overland route from Marrakech is part of the journey, through the Todra and Dades gorges and the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. At the dune line we set a private luxury camp, a sunrise camel journey, and Amazigh poetry by the fire.

The road from Marrakech crosses the High Atlas and passes through the Dades and Todra gorges, which is why most journeys spread the drive over two days. Nights are spent in a private desert camp at the foot of the dunes.

Marrakech, Fes, the Dades valley and the Todra gorge.
